Ohio Statehouse Turns 150

Today marks the sesquicentennial of the Ohio Statehouse. The celebration included appearances by Speaker Bill Batchelder of the Ohio House of Representatives, Tom Niehaus from the Ohio Senate, Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, the Licking County Jazz Band, and Mrs. Cotter’s fourth grade students from St. Mary’s School, as well as Civil War re-enactors, an artist’s fair, and cake-cutting ceremony. Outside of the 19th-century Greek Revival landmark, protesters from Occupy Columbus and Pro-Choice Ohio conveyed some passions of their own. A more interesting dichotomy of sentiments would have been hard to find. Regardless of politics and protests, I’m proud to be an Ohioan and thankful to live in a place where we have freedom to speak our minds and rejoice in what we choose. Click here for more photos.
