Depptober

October is an excellent month. It gives us red leaves, apple cider and Halloween, not to mention sweater coats, football games and pumpkin-flavored everythings. Each October, we indulge in a secret movie watching ritual we like to call "Depptober." We started doing this several years ago and haven't told anyone about it, until now. The tradition involves binge watching a series of six Johnny Depp movies. But not just any JD film. There are no viewings of Pirates of the Caribbean in these parts. We’re talking about a particular brand of Depp that’s sweetly dark yet slightly twisted—and extra heavy on the Tim Burton. Here’s a rundown of a typical Depptober:

Corpse Bride
Happily never after.
Best viewed in: early October
Pairs well with: popcorn, apple cider

Sleepy Hollow
Watch your head.
Best viewed in: early to mid October
Pairs well with: pumpkin cookies, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin ice cream

Alice in Wonderland
Through the spooking glass.
Best viewed in: mid October
Pairs well with: teacakes, scones, oolong tea

Edward Scissorhands
Love cuts like a knife. Because Winona and Johnny forever.
Best viewed in: mid to late October
Pairs well with: chopped vegetables, sliced fruit, Shish kebabs, ambrosia salad

Dark Shadows
One big haunted family.
Best viewed in: mid to late October
Pairs well with: fondue, pot roast, Tab

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Blood never looked so beautiful.
Best viewed in: late October
Pairs well with: merlot, meat pie, spaghetti with extra tomato sauce

Other films that we religiously watch in October sans Monsieur Depp include Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie. Have a haunty season.
